Snow day/bag on head

Almost two weeks ago I started this post. I was actually hanging out with Kamara at the time. We had no idea that that night she would be going into labor. It is a little ironic when you see that I was writing about our birth below. Ryleigh came at a time that was very similar to our birth. It wasn't actually snowy on the day that Ryleigh was born, but it was the weekend following. I still wanted to post some of the pictures because it was a great weekend. I had a great shower yesterday for Carly. I will have to post some pictures of that later.

All of us in the DFW know what an amazing Thursday-weekend we had last week. It was the kind of snow that you just rarely see in this area. What a memorable year we have had between a snowy Christmas and now a snowy Valentine's weekend. My twin sister and I were born on Feb. 18, 1978. I am not telling you that to let you know that our birthday is coming up. I am telling you that because that was a very memorable month for the DFW area in 1978. We beat the record that February held in a 24 hour period from Feb. 17, 1978 last Thursday-Friday. When my parents retell our birth they always start by talking about the snowy weather. It was a scary day for my parents as we were two months early and they did not know that they were having twins. You can imagine the shock it was for them when they already had 3 daughters waiting at home. One of the first things they thought of when they saw all that snow last Thursday was our birth 32 years ago.. They had not seen anything like it in a 24 hour period since our birth.
I know I am not alone when I reflect on the beauty and peace that the snow brought. I stood out in the backyard at one point on Thursday as Kate was swinging and just listened. I listened to the quietness and softness of the white snow covering the ground. I thanked God for his amazing beauty. The day just continued to get better when we were sitting down as a family to eat chili for dinner when Zack got the call that there would be no school on Friday. He would have a three day weekend. How awesome!!! It is so rare to find out the night before that there is going to be no school the following day. He had to do his principal duties to make sure that everybody knew, but it was worth the wait! We then rented a movie and had some chocolate chip cookies to celebrate! We watched as our house and neighborhood transformed into a place that we had never seen before. The trees sunk down low with the weight of the snow so much that we could hardly recognize our house. We slept in late on Friday and then Zack went and got Starbucks coffee and some cinnamon rolls. This is a tradition for us if there is no school due to weather. Zack really enjoys getting out in the weather and seeing it for himself, even though everybody else is staying home safely. He took some great pictures that I will post below. We continued our day by building a snowman and walking around in the neighborhood to see other snowmen. It was very special. We will treasure our memories of the beautiful winter weather that we had Valentine's weekend 2010.

Here are a couple of pictures that Zack took early that morning

We didn't have snow boots for Kate so Zack had the idea of putting ziploc bags around her legs and duct taping them. While it was great when we were outside, it was quite the chore to take all the tape off! We thought she kind of looked like a robot.

Kate and me sitting on part of the body of the snowman

Here are some shots of some snowmen in our neighborhood

Zack was cracking me up with our snowman. He wanted it to be sooo big. That was his goal. I like seeing the comparison of our neighbors and then our snowman. I think ours looks more like a snow creature.
Our snowman did get the award for lasting the longest. It was so big that it stayed around when everybody elses snowman melted. This is also neat to compare our house that afternoon from the morning below. It shows how much snow already had melted. Look at how far down our trees are hanging below.

We went on a nice walk in the neighborhood

Moving on to bag on head. We have often commented on Kate's very silly personality. Well, here is more proof. She was walking around and into things with a bag on her head. Such a silly girl! Enjoy! Ok, so it wouldn't let me post the footage because it was too long, so you will have to settle for a picture.

Oh, my! I didn't know that you had 3 older sisters!!!! What a shock for your parents! I think about and pray for your sweet family daily. I was actually called the morning after Kamara delivered & told about Ryleigh's birth. Your aunt goes to Sunset and shared the news with my father-in-laws dental assistant....who made the connection. Small world!

Tam,

I just got done reading some of your posts. I never have time anymore! That song you posted about "I Lift my Eyes Up" encourages me too! The snow day seems like a years ago now. Love you guys! -Kam

Why does Zack's snowman look odd like his "drawings?" He has trouble with human-type objects doesn't he? love ya! See you and our precious little one soon! Lauren Rogers

Tami, April and I were also born two months early and I was the "surprise" sixty-five minutes later. Our parents didn't know they were having twins either!
I've been thinking about you a lot as I follow Ryleigh's progress. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to see Kamara going through so much. No one quite understands what twins go through do they? What a blessing to have you so close during this time!
