Kindergarten and Preschool

In August, Kate started Kindergarten and in September Carly started preschool. We also started soccer for both of the girls, but that is for another post. It has been quite an exciting and busy time! Jump forward to now a couple months later and school is going great! Kate has made some friends from  her class and soccer. She walks into school almost every day holding hands with Ashlyn, Zoe, and Mckinley into the building. We try to walk most days, but now that it is getting colder it is harder. So, when we walk we can meet at the front doors so they can walk into together and we as Moms can visit. Kate has had to walk into the school a couple of times by herself on cold or rainy days. She always feels a little uneasy doing that, but I am proud of her for being brave and walking in anyway. There are some day where she tells me that she wants to stay home with me, but for the most part she seems to really enjoy it. She comes home happy and a lot of days we go play on the playground afterwards so she can continue to play with her friends from school. Carly enjoys it, too! Miss Serlin, Kate's teacher, always gives Kate great behavior reports on Fridays saying that she is kind to others and works hard in class. We are very proud. Carly has been enjoying having a turn with school now, too. She started going to Greenville Oaks Preschool in the 3's class this year. She kept asking for when she was going to get to go and her turn finally came! The first month of school she was pretty quiet in school and did not talk much. Mrs. Mallory, her teacher, has said that Carly has really been opening up the past couple of weeks, though. So, Carly is getting more comfortable being herself now and she also has a couple of friends that she enjoys playing with, too. Carly always takes everything out her backpack all by herself and does not want help from me. Mrs. Mallory has also said that she has noticed that Carly likes to do things herself. Carly is very independent! Mrs. Mallory and Miss Serlin have been the perfect fits for both of our girls for teachers. We feel so blessed by our Father.

This is when Kate had "Meet the Teacher" and she got to walk into her classroom and meet Miss Serlin. Isn't Miss Serlin so adorable? Some of us have said she reminds us of a Disney princess.

After we had "Meet the Teacher" I met Kamara at Panchos with the girls. It was our last little outing with all the girls before Kate started school. A little sad. Here is Carly and Aubrey.

Zack was asked to speak at the Kindergarten Blessing the day before school started. Marti, the Children's Minister wanted us all up there. We left Claire in the nursery. Zack did an awesome job encouraging parents of Kindergarteners.

There were a lot of kids going into Kindergarten. This was just at first service. The second service had a large group of kids, too.

Putting stuff in her locker. After the first week of school we no longer got to walk past the front doors of the building. I understand why they have this rule, but it is a little sad for the Mamas. So, I enjoy looking back at these pictures since I never get to see her go down the hall anymore.

Kate sat down perfectly and started drawing. "Good-bye Kate. Have a great day. I love you." There were some tears a couple of times for me the first couple of weeks, as it is a bittersweet thing when your child starts Kindergarten.

That night we celebrated Kate and Daddy's first day of school by going to Uncle Julios for dinner.

For preschool Carly's teachers wanted me to bring a recent picture of Carly.  So this was me taking pictures for school.

Kate brought this home from Art class the first week and I thought it was cute.

After the first week of school was over we went to Aunt Kam's house to celebrate with blizzards! You made it through your first week of Kindergarten, Kate!

On October 3 I went and brought Kate lunch for the first time. It was a nice treat. They have the parents sit at round tables by themselves with their child away from where the Kindergarteners sit. I had Kamara come and watch Claire on a preschool day, so it could just be me and Kate. Kate was a little sad to see me leave after lunch, but she got over it quickly. It was kind of funny when Kate walked in and saw me sitting and waiting for her. She wanted to obey the rules and was unsure about walking over and sitting with me. She wanted to make sure she was doing the right thing. Sweet girl! As you can see I brought her Wendys. Yummy! I look forward to doing it again some time.


It is kind of weird having just Claire two days a week now, but I am also really enjoying the quality time I get to spend with her. I always miss Carly and Kate and I am glad when I get to see them after their day is done. We love our girls and we are so proud of them!
